OHS gets tested in strong Fletcher squad

Oakleaf (2-8, 2017)
@ Fletcher (7-3, 2017)
Fletcher has one of best wide receivers in Florida. Ridgeview scored three touchdowns in one half of football in the air in Officials Seminar on Saturday. Oakleaf ran up and down the field with senior speedster Keshawn King going 60 yards in one run for a score then sitting the rest of the half. Four other ball carriers did as much damage and Oakleaf quarterback Walter Simmons was 70 percent sharp with two missed long balls just inches off the mark. This could be a track meet unless defensive end Chantz Williams lets loose and disrupts the pocket (AGAIN!). Oakleaf wants to re-establish street cred under new coach Frank Garis. Knock this one out of the park, then go from there.

St. Augustine
(12-1, 2017) @ Clay (9-4, 2017)
Clay has a plateful of question marks from the summer at quarterback and linebacker, but solid play on the defensive line with Cody Devore and Ken Johnson.
Spencer LeSage was a standout slot receiver last year, but is slated to start at quarterback in this one. St.Augustine brings a ton of defensive returners but lost a bucketload of offensive weapons. Clay coach Joshua Hoekstra likes to beef up his first half of the season. This game, then Fleming Island for Clay. This game, then Baker County for Yellow Jackets. Got a feeling the first half will be brutal, but the second half will mellow. St. Augustine won 27-21 in 2017.

Westside (1-8, 2017) @
Fleming Island (10-3m 2017)
Who gets to show off new players first in this one? Fleming Island’s defense gets wrecked by graduation; Smenda, Bull, Surgeoner, Jaylin Robinson, Jose Concepcion, etc., Fleming Island’s offense is pretty solid; Hyams, Snyder, McBride, Michaels etc. Westside threw the ball against Fleming Island at the Jaguars 7 on 7. This time, it is with pads and full contact. This will be a rugged game of who blinks first. Fleming Island won 19-7 in 2017 with defensive back Eugene Oglesby snagging two interceptions; one for a score..

Ridgeview (6-4 2017)
@ Keystone Heights (4-5, 2017)
Ridgeview got beat up a bit by Oakleaf last Saturday at the RHS Officials Clinic and will need to re-establish stability; dropped passes, errant throws, missed tackles. Keystone Heights is big as ever, but without a legit quarterback. If Indians set up run game with prowess, Ridgeview has to stop it and force the pass game. Huff needs to go big before Nature Coast visits in game one. Ridgeview won 35-13 in 2017.
n
Wolfson (1-9 2017)
@ Middleburg (1-9, 2017)
Wolfson is struggling to get some wins. Middleburg struggled to stay healthy last year. Broncos have stayed healthy all summer (30 of 43 players hurt last year) and that’s good. Quarterback Joe Justino gives some life to offense with handful of skill players around, On paper, Middleburg is solid on both sides; former Fleming Island coach Frank Hall coaching defense helps. Could be an exciting start for new Bronco resurge. Middleburg won 48-0 in 2017.
n
Bishop Kenny (7-3, 2017)
@ Orange Park (1-9, 2017)
Kenny brings top notch quarterback with weapons. Orange Park has top notch weapons with ??? at quarterback. Raider coach Tom Macpherson has a plethora of skill players; track ace Alex Collier, RB Zykeim Sermons and wideout Sean Dixon. If unseasoned quarterback Vinnie Walker can stay calm and deliver, a new wave of excitement could hit the Raider sideline. Collier scorched the field at Baldwin High in spring game. Raiders have huge offensive line; Rhodes, Little, Flanders, Elliott. If they make holes, break out the extra bulbs for the scoreboard. Bishop Kenny won 48-12 in 2017.

Branford (5-5, 2017) at St. Johns Country Day School (1-6, 2017)
A new coach, Derek Chipoletti and pals; Steve Reynolds, Ryan Broskie and Ray Flores, have injected some big football attitude to small school St. Johns and the results could be a packed house at Spartan fields on Fridays. Branford is chock full of returners; probably twice as many players as St. Johns, with a 1,000 yard rusher and a guy that runs like a gazelle catching the ball. Bucs defense only allowed 23 points per game last year. Spartan quarterback Max Monroe will get tested, read chased. Chipoletti pulls out a biggie and St.Johns starts a new era.
