Cynthia Elizabeth Cordes Buhlert
Cynthia Elizabeth Cordes Buhlert, 87, Orange Park, passed away Oct. 20, 2018.
Cynthia was born Jan. 17, 1931 in New York City. As a little girl, Cynthia wore the wheels off her roller skates travelling up and down the city sidewalks. She loved the city life and attended secretarial school as a young woman.
During high school she met Henry Cordes and they married in 1951. Shortly, they were joined by their children Susan, Kenneth, and Linda. As a mother, Cynthia was devoted to her family and they enjoyed camping every summer in New Jersey. This eventually led them to relocate and raise their family in the quiet scenic suburbs of Andover, New Jersey. Sons Donald and Jerome joined the family during this time.
As the children grew older they chose to relocate to Florida in 1979. Cynthia was a dedicated advocate for children serving as a guardian ad litem. Her home was a respite for those in need of a loving space.
Church and community service were foremost throughout her life. She served as an usher, choir member, organizer of various plays and programs, and communion minister to the sick and homebound. She also created a Preschool at Advent Lutheran Church of Orange Park, serving as its director for many years.
Whenever she saw a need, she was always willing to offer a prayer, a smile, or even a warm casserole.
January 2000, Henry made his transition after a lengthy battle with cancer. Cynthia was comforted by her children living nearby. She enjoyed her daily walks and adored her cats and dogs. And she certainly had a green thumb! Cynthia’s garden flourished with vibrant colors drawing various birds and butterflies, providing hours of pleasure in her leisure time.
In 2009, Cynthia met and married William Buhlert. Both widowed they discovered a common interest in travel and made many exciting excursions including cruises and cross country tours. Always up for an adventure, Cynthia and Bill flew in a hot air balloon over the fields in Missouri.
Cynthia’s exuberance, gregariousness as well as her delightful laughter are memorable. She will be missed by the many whose lives she touched through her generosity, humor, and good nature.
She is survived by husband, William Buhlert, Orange Park; daughter, Susan Eichhorn (Dale), Green Cove Springs; son, Kenneth Cordes (Michelle), Boynton Beach; daughter, Linda Day-Cordes (Jayne), Fleming Island: son, Donald Cordes, Orange Park; son, Jerome Carrubba , Green Cove Springs; 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
A service to honor the life of Cynthia Cordes Buhlert will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 2156 Loch Rane Boulevard, Orange Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Advent Preschool in Cynthia’s honor
