Brooke Lynne Benedit
10- 21-98 to 5-26-2020
It is with Great sadness that we say Goodbye to our beautiful daughter. On May 26th at 10:00 am Brooke Lynne Benedit died at home in her Mother’s arms.
Brooke fought each day for the right to live. She was a “Storm Trooper.” She told her mother one morning that she had a dream that she was going to live another 3 years. Brooke dreamed of the fun she had in Mr. Howell’s Drama Class’s at OPHS. Of going to Japan and teaching English. She dreamed of owning a Classic Corvette and of being a cancer survivor while helping to find a cure.
Brooke was a proud employee of Poochie’s Dog Park, a college student at SJRSC and the sweetest, most respectful and caring daughter in the world.
Brooke is survived by her rescue animals Diego her Turtle, her Dogs Notch and Estelle and her Kitten Gardenia. Her Dad, Edward B. Benedit Jr., Her Mom, Karen Lynne Benedit, Grandparents Jacob and Clarine Coleman and her loving Uncle Larry. This world has lost a precious Angel. “Your Daddy Loves you Baby.”

Phillip Lloyd Poteete
Phillip Lloyd Poteete passed in his home at 60 years of age, surrounded by family on June 5, 2020 after a valiant battle with Bone cancer.
Phillip was born in Santa Ana, California. His father Howard was from Blairsville, Georgia, and his mother Barbara was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina. He and his family also lived together in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Florida before settling in Middleburg, Florida in 1974. Middleburg is where Phillip called home. It's where he found his love of fishing, hunting, working on mud trucks, then breaking said mud trucks to fix them all over again. Through those past times he made a list of life long friends large enough to make most people envious. They were well deserved though.
Anyone who knew Phillip knew the lengths he would go for a good joke. He was always the comedian, even when he wasn't trying. It wasn't always pranks and jokes, though. He was always looking after the well-being of those he loved most. Ask his daughter how many texts she has reminding her to pull out where there was a traffic signal. (Spoiler Alert: Too many to count, I tried) He always wanted to lend a helping hand if he could. Whether you needed advice, or your new tree stand needed to go up before opening day at the hunting club.
When Phillip wasn't Hunting or spending time with his family and friends he was working. He never slowed down. At work he was always reliable and went above and beyond. He is well respected by co-workers, and management alike. Clocking out at work never meant work was done for Phillip. Once he made it home he always found projects to improve his house and his yard. His home was a point of pride for him. You could usually find him outside working on something until dark. Outside in nature is where Phillip found peace.
Now Phillip has gone home to God for eternal everlasting peace. He will be greeted there by his doting parents Howard and Barbara Poteete and his older sister Denise Grossman. Phillip left pieces of him here on earth, though. They reside in his adoring only daughter Becky Poteete and his favorite son-in-law Greg Hart He left pieces with his best friend and beloved younger brother Bradley Poteete and his cherished sister-in-law Jo-Ann Poteete.
He also left behind loved ones from the Herron Family, the Christy Clan, and all his dearest friends from Walker Swamp Hunting Club. To say he will be missed would not do justice to the hole left in all who knew him. Phillip was a rare man made of equal parts grit, love, and perseverance. Whatever the job was that needed to be done, Phillip made sure it got done, by any means necessary. He always had a plan, and up until the very end he stuck by that plan to do as much as he could to care for those he loved. I hope I have painted a picture of this man that was larger than life and touched all who were near and dear to him.
Services will be held Saturday June 20, 2020 at 3pm in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Pastor Rick Crews will officiate. Flowers are welcome, however in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, or the family asks that you hug your loved ones tight.
Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com
Arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. (904) 284-4000
