Robert Lee Snell
Robert Lee Snell, 68, of Penney Farms, FL, entered the sunset of life on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County Hospital, Middleburg, FL.
A native and longtime resident of Penney Farms, he was the son of Willie Snell and Clidy Doretha Cooper Snell, born on Saturday, August 11, 1951.
He was educated in the Clay County School District and a 1969 graduate of Dunbar High School. After high school, he enrolled in the St. Augustine Vocational-Technical School and earned his plumbing certification in 1971.
On April 21, 1972, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. Lance Cpl. Snell earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Rifle Expert badge and was honorably discharged on April 20, 1976. He was of the Baptist faith and during his early years he was baptized at his family’s church, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Penney Farms. Robert was very intelligent and enjoyed staying home and loved talking about his family’s good old days. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and a licensed plumber who would assist anyone he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers, Willie James Snell, Johnny Snell, Freeman Snell, and Cleveland Smith, Jr; sisters, Lillie Jean Snell Sanders, Alice Searcy Hankerson, Betty Ann Snell, and Willie Mae Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memories: son, Robert Sylvester, Penney Farms; brothers, Paul (Judy) Snell, Chino, CA; David (Sandra) Snell, Monterey, CA; Jimmy Snell, Rialto, CA; sisters, Pastor Mildred Jean Snell, Pier Station, FL; Dorothy Davis, Joanne Taylor, both of Starke; Shirley Kelsey, Orange Park; Beverly Horn, Riverside, CA; brother-in-law, Leroy Sanders, Green Cove Springs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Due to the CDC COVID-19 guidelines, a limited, socially distanced visitation will be from 9:30 - 11 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2020 with a private Homegoing Celebration to follow at 11 a.m., at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 4395 Palmetto Ave., Penney Farms, FL, Pastor Adrian M. Andrews, host pastor. His sister, Pastor Mildred J. Snell, of Kingdom of God Tabernacle Holiness Church, Pier Station, is the eulogist. Interment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery

Ruby Frances Bounds

Ruby Frances Bounds will be remembered as Ruth Bounds by many. Ruby Frances Bounds died at the Life Care Center of Orange Park, Florida on May 15, 2020. Ruby participated and enjoyed all of the activities provided by the center. The family greatly thanks the many staff members at Life Care Center who cared for Ruby over the years. Ruby was born on January 29th, 1924 in Allentown, Georgia in Bleckley County. Ruby was very supportive and active in all of her husband, Harold (PeeWee's) business ventures throughout the years of marriage and served as his right-hand and keeper of the books. Ruby was a loving mother of three and raised her children in Newton, MS. She moved to Meridian, Gautier, Fairhope, AL, and then to Orange Park, FL to live out her life. Ruby and Harold did many exciting and dangerous things together during their marriage. The one they were most proud of and the most dangerous was driving from Brownsville, Texas to Panama via the Pan-American Highway in the 1970s during a time of upheaval in these areas. They enjoyed stretching the boundaries. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bounds, daughter Joyce Elizabeth Ward, and son Harold Gene Bounds. Parents Dewitt C. Arnold and Minnie Lee Nobles Arnold. Sisters Lorene Chambers, Mattie Young, and Myrtie Louise Douglas. Brother Herman Leroy Arnold, Half-Brother Vance Arnold, and Step-Mother Alma Arnold. Survivors include her daughter Ethel Frances Bounds Glaze, six grandchildren Ginger Amador, Toni DeLancey, Jack Ward, Jr., Angela Doane, Jeannie Abell, and Joannie Greene. Fifteen great-grandchildren Justin, Juliana, Jay, Leah, Gina, Claire, Libby, Kendra, Darcy, Jake, Brody, Avery, Karsyn, Evan, and Ruby. Arrangements under the care of Newton County Funeral Home. Due to the pandemic, there will not be a public/family burial.
