Thomas Henry Robertson
Thomas Henry Robertson, 82, died April 15 at home in Green Cove Springs, FL after a short illness. Tom was born in Cleveland, grew up in Rocky River, Westlake and graduated from Avon Lake High School where he was a member of the marching band. He had worked since he was 12 years old, starting his own lawn service in high school, and worked with his father at a Cleveland concrete company. After serving in the U.S. Army as a radio specialist in Germany, he was on the team that developed acoustic ceiling tile at Donn Products. He attended the police academy at Lorain County Community College and served on the Avon Police Department and then the Avon Lake Police Department (known as Robby) for 25 years. He was a member of the first Avon Lake Police Dive Team, part of the Marine Patrol, a motorcycle officer, and for a short time was the forensic photographer. He served as the Safety Town officer and retired at the rank of lieutenant of Avon Lake Police in May 1989. He was a great mentor to anyone he knew. Tom was an avid boater and fisherman on Lake Erie, and was a member of the local British car club – he and Carol could be seen touring around in their orange MG. After retiring to St. Augustine, he and his wife Carol found the mountains of North Carolina more suitable and moved to Franklin where he was president of the local photography club and volunteered at the Macon County Sheriff’s Department. A jack-of-all-trades, he loved tinkering with electronics, hiking, painting – there wasn’t a thing he couldn’t fix, and if the part was unavailable he made it. Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol (Sanders); daughters, Gretchen (Daniel) Shimola of Avon, Tracy Robertson-Miller of Avon, Kelly Robertson of Fleming Island, Fla., and Lori (Tom) Buckhalter of St. Augustine; grandchildren, Jennifer, Blake, and Devin Shimola, Justin and Benjamin Miller, Sammy Chancy and Kristina and Emily Buckhalter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertrude (nee Lehocky) Robertson; sister, Eileen and brothers James and David. A private family memorial will be held later. Arrangements are under the care of St. Johns Family Funeral Home.

Tiny Eileen Nulty

Tiny Eileen Nulty passed away peacefully at her home in Orange Park on April 16, 2018 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, William Harry Nulty, who passed away a few weeks earlier on March 23, 2018. Tiny was born September 20th, 1933 in New York City, the daughter of Hertha and Otto Meier and a surprise twin sister to brother Otto. Tiny was named after Baroness Tiny von Blume, a member of German royalty and an acquaintance of Hertha’s family in Germany. Tiny weighed 4 pounds 7 ounces at birth and often joked that her name was a result of her parents stunned to have twins and hastily naming her because of her small birth size. Tiny and her family were visiting Germany in September 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. Her family had to take a roundabout path through several countries in order to make it safely back to the United States. Tiny grew up in Woodridge, New Jersey, was a cheerleader in high school and college and very active in numerous sports. She became a canoe and water sports expert while attending summer camp each year in Bear Mountain State Park in New York, where she first met her future husband William. Tiny graduated from Trenton State Teacher’s College in 1955 and traveled extensively throughout Europe before beginning her career as a junior high and high school physical education teacher. With the pay from her first teaching job Tiny purchased a 1955 Mercury coupe, earning her the nickname “hot rod Meier”. Before retiring, she continued to substitute teach for many years. Tiny was a devoted wife of a career United States Marine Corps officer, managing the family during her husband’s overseas tours of duties and coordinating the various family moves as William was stationed to various posts around the world. She enjoyed helping with and rarely missed any of her kid’s sports events, concerts or activities, and loved traveling around Florida and the southeast with her husband watching her six grandchildren compete in various sporting activities. Of all her roles she was most proud of being Grandma Tiny.
Nulty is survived by her sons William (Marietta, Georgia), Scott (St Johns, Florida), and daughter Jill Kelley (Orange Park); six grandchildren including Chris, Cameron, Sheridan, Kyle, Rachel, and Will, and one great grandchild, Mallory. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Tiny’s name to Parkinson’s Research via The Michael J. Fox Foundation www.michaeljfox.org
