Russell Brooks Poole
Russell Brooks Poole, 48, of Green Cove Springs, FL., passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 24, 2018. He was born on July 3, 1969 in Jacksonville, to Charles Irwin and Mary Frances (Brooks) Poole. Russell was a graduate of UNF and Mercer Law School. He practiced law in Columbus, Georgia and Clay County, Florida. Russell was a warm, generous, loyal friend with a wonderful sense of humor and wit.
Russell is survived by his mother, Frances Poole; Daughter, Ansley Grace Poole; son, Adam Hall Poole; uncle, Mickey Rabin and cousins, Mike Rabin and Ray Poole.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 400 Saint Johns Avenue, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 with The Rev. Celeste R. Nelson R. Corby, Jr.
Nelson R. Corby, Jr., age 70, died April 1, from multiple myeloma. Nelson was a Gentleman and a Scholar. He will be missed by his wife of 41 years, Jane; daughter, Elizabeth; son, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Lynn; and grandchildren, Mason, Samantha and Tyler; brother, Michael; and his many friends and family. Nelson was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Doctor of Engineering Degree. After working for RCA Research Laboratories in Princeton, NJ, he spent his career as a Scientist in the GE Research Center in Schenectady, NY, where he worked on numerous projects, supporting the Aircraft Engines, Medical, and Power Systems groups.
During his time at GE, Nelson was awarded 50 U.S. patents for his work in robotic vision for inspection and welding, real-time tracking in radiological procedures, magnetic noise filtering, reducing x-ray dosages during fluoroscopic exams, light detectors for the 3D camera, magnetic source imaging, and real-time acquisition and archiving of time-sampled signals. Nelson is a member of the National Speleological Society, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and the GE Elfun Society where he worked to modify toys for disabled children.
Nelson looked forward to his yearly trips to Colorado each September. He and his friend, Rich, hiked the 49er’s for over 25 years together, eventually sharing the trail experience with their sons. Nelson enjoyed repairing antique clocks and pianos, any travel adventure and learning new things. He had boundless curiosity and loved learning the details of how things work. But he most enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.
Nelson carried a wealth of knowledge and it was his joy to share it with everyone. He was a true Renaissance man. Mary Josephine Lane
Mrs. Mary Josephine Lane, 86, of Fleming Island, FL. passed away on March 20, 2018 in her home with her loving family. She was born on July 15, 1931in Madison, FL to the late William Henry and Laura Kathleen Bailey. Mary was raised on a farm in Madison with her eight siblings. She left high school to marry the love of her life, Charlie N. Lane on August 16, 1947. After having their children, she returned to school getting her diploma and took college courses in the 1970s. Mary spent her life caring for her family and their home. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, baking, quilting and playing the piano. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. Mary was met at Heaven’s gate by her loving husband, Charlie, her parents and siblings, Jeanette, T.W., Josephine, Lulumae, Weta and Franklin. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Sharlene, Connie, Doug, Mary and Mark; sisters, Peggy and Loretta; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Beverly Joyce Willis
Beverly Joyce Willis passed away on March 14, 2018 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on February 27, 1945 in Miami Beach, FL to Audna Willis and the late Jake Willis. Beverly recently retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Brooks Home Care Advantage in Jacksonville, FL. Surviving Beverly is her mother Audna Willis; her children, Scott Herndon, Andrea Miller, Kari Herndon (daughter-in- law), and Victor Miller II (son-in-law); grandsons, Jake Herndon and Victor Lorenzo Miller III; several cousins, especially Sandy Cochran, Judy Willis, and Donna Pancho; friends, Vickie Pye and Vickie Frisbee.
The family would like to thank 21st Century Oncology and Baptist South Medical Center for the exceptional care they provided. A memorial service will be held on April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Highpoint Community Church, 84 Knight Boxx Road, Orange Park, FL 32065.
