Virginia ‘Ginny’ McDonald
Virginia “Ginny” McDonald received a blessing on Saturday, March 3 and has joined her husband in a place where she is back to full mobility, remembers everything and always has a quick witted response at the ready. Ginny was a remarkable woman with an amazing capacity for love as shown by the hundreds of foster children she took care of during her 40 plus years as a foster and medical foster parent. Very few people have touched so many lives and families. Those of us lucky enough to call her Mom, Nana, sister and friend will cherish the memories and celebrate her incredible life! Fred R. Birkholz
Fred R. Birkholz, 77, of Green Cove Springs, Fla. passed away March 10, 2018. He was born on March 28, 1940 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Raymond L. and Alta Mae (Lewis) Birkholz. Fred came to the area 30 years ago from Baltimore, Md. and enjoyed boating, skeet shooting, traveling out west and was a traditional jazz buff. He retired in 2000 after 35 years of dedicated service to the CSX Railroad. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Gonzalez.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Chris K. Birkholz; son, Ray Birkholz (Sonja) of Middleburg, Fla.; daughter, Jenean Thompson of Columbia, MO; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel and funeral services will start at 11a.m.
James Jimmy Shawara
James Jimmy Shawara, It is with heavy hearts that the announcement is made for the passing of beloved brother and son James Jimmy Shawara, of Winnipeg, Canada. Jimmy departed his life on March 4, 2018 and left behind his worldly suffering when called from this life by our Lord. Jimmy is greatly loved and missed by his remaining family in Florida. Mother; Ann Flores, Sisters; Caroline Smith, Colleen McDaniel and Kelly Avery, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Minnie Lee Braswell
Minnie Lee Braswell, 90 of Orange Park, Fla. passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018. Minnie was born in Bartow, Georgia and grew up in the Miami area and moved to Orange Park in 1968. She was a past member of Fleming Island Baptist Church where she was Director of the Nursery and was a current member of Russell Baptist Church. In the past years, she was part owner of the Kentucky Fried Chicken locations in Orange Park and retired as a homemaker. Minnie enjoyed sewing, her church, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Braswell is survived by her children, Gordon E. “Donnie” (Sherrie) Braswell, Jr., Gwendolyn “Gwen” (Tom) Crawford, Gregory E. “Greg” Braswell and Gloria E. (Rick) Johns, ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 in Russell Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Weeks and Rev. Paul Estes officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Eliam Cemetery in Melrose, Fla. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to services in the church.
