Someone sent me an email titled “The Seven Laws of Love.” It impressed me enough that I decided to share them with an elaboration on them.
First, Love is Commitment. Repeatedly Jesus spoke to His disciples about commitment to Him. He said (1) take up the cross and follow me; (2) whoever puts his hand to the plow and looks back is unworthy of Me; (3) whoever comes after Me must love Me more than father, mother or family; (4) “sell all you have and follow me” to the rich young man. Genuine love means you are committed to the one you love.
2. Love is Sacrifice. Love requires sacrifice. Usually that sacrifice is giving up yourself for the one you love. Love willingly does that because the reward (of loving) is always great than the requirement (of sacrificing for that love).
3, Love is Truth. Quoted and paraphrased repeatedly is the statement of Jesus “The truth shall set you free.” The ultimate expression and embodiment of Truth is our Lord Jesus. Jesus said it emphatically, “I am the truth…” (John 14:6) And He is love!
4. Love is the antidote to fear. This is one of the greatest statements about the antidote to fear that I have ever found. “…love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.” (I John 4:18) God’s Word admonishes us to “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
5. Love is Peace. There is a peace that surpasses all understanding. (Philippians 4:8) All the benefits God grants us are rooted in His love including the blessing of surpassing peace. That peace is God’s gift of love to us.
6. Love is Healing. The wholeness produced by loving God and others is above all that anything else can offer.
7. Love is Forever. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul describes the superior qualities of love. Then he says thhat there are three great fruits of the Christian’s love experience. They are Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of all the fruits and gifts that the Spirit gives us from the Father is LOVE.
