LAKE ASBURY - Lake Asbury Junior High's flag football team knocked out Oakleaf Junior High for a second straight year, a 13-0 semifinal win this year, to get to the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference championship set for Mon., Oct. 14 at Lake Asbury Junior High School.

The Lady Tigers will take on Green Cove Springs Junior High who beat Lakeside Junior High 13-6 in their semifinal. Lake Asbury has a 0-0 tie with Green Cove Springs in the Lady Cougars first regular season game, then a 13-0 win late in the season.

For the Lake Asbury flag girls, in their semifinal against Oakleaf, a scoring pass from Tiger quarterback Katherine Tillis to Yuliona Garcia was the first touchdown of the game with a 22 yard pass to Nacoya Blocton a key play.

Lake Asbury's defense struck again in the second period with Nia Blocton snagging a pass and returning it to the Oakleaf 25.

A sack by Oakleaf defender Kailey Hogan shut down a Lake Asbury drive.

In the third period, Nia Blocton again intercepted and set up a Kaygen Williamson scamper for a score and the 13-0 score. Williamson' final play scamper in last year's final sealed the Lady Tigers championship win. The Tigers are coached by Jim Black and Rodney Ivey.

Oakleaf got some late game offense behind runs from Olivia Gaines, but two passes into the end zone were over the heads of targets Phoebe Chapman and Danielle Gilbert.

Lake Asbury defeated Green Cove with the score tied at 6-6 and the Lady Tigers getting a 60 yard run from Williamson. Green Cove Springs defender Ariana Pierce had an interception for a touchdown to tie the game in the second half.

Against Lakeside, Green Cove Springs athlete Megan Cobb stole the show with two scores; one a 40 yard pass play on the last play of the half, then snagged the two point extra point pass for a 13-0 lead en route to the 13-6 win.
