ORANGE PARK – Fresh from a Tallahassee trip last weekend that included two more wins to add to their unbeaten 9-0-0 record, the St. Johns Country Day School girls soccer team continue to take on all challengers with this weekend bringing two of Florida’s best programs to Orange Park.

Merritt Island, the defending Class 3A champion and a Final Four team in 2015 and 2016, will visit St. Johns Country Day School on Fri., Dec. 15 for a 7:30 p.m. start. Merritt Island is currently 11-1-0 with a lone loss, 5-1, to Bishop Moore out of Orlando on November 2. Merritt Island won the 3A title over Stanton Prep last year and features four year won/loss records of 11-1-0, 23-2-3, 27-1-2 and 18-3-1.

On Sat., Dec. 16, at 11:30 a.m., 4A-Montverde Academy near Clermont, will visit St. Johns for a second challenge in two days for Spartans coach Mike Pickett. Montverde is a nationally ranked program that has records of 10-0, 25-3, 14-2-1, 19-0-1 and 11-8-1 in the past five years. Montverde beat Bishop Moore in the region 2-2A championship game last year en route to a runnerup finish to Oxbridge Academy.

From TopDrawer.com, a national rankings website for girls and boys soccer, St. Johns ranked number one in Florida, number three in the FAB50 nationwide and number one in the Florida-north region.

Montverde, now Class 4A after finishing as 2A runnerup to Oxbridge, is ranked sixth in Florida, 20th in the FAB50 nationwide and third in the Florida-north region.

For this season, St. Johns is led in scoring by forward Abbey Newton with 15 goals with Kami Loustau and Kamryn Towers both hitting for seven goals.

Maddie Wilkes has manned the goalie box and has just four goals scored.
