OAKLEAF – Oakleaf High softball won its third consecutive Roger Jone Kissimmee Klassic Tournament title behind tournament Most Valuable Player Mady Davis’ strong pitching effort with a 6-1 championship win over 8A-Bartow, ranked fourth in Florida, on Wed., April 27 in a championship game moved from the weekend due to weather.

Davis won the MVP trophy for the second year in a row; a first in Oakleaf history.

Davis started the scoring for the Knights with a two-run double in the first inning as Oakleaf popped off to a quick 4-0 lead.

“She’s a gamer,” said Thompson of Davis. “She stepped up, she said I want to hit.”

With one out, Kaylee Lambrecht started the hit barrage with a line drive to center followed by hits from Baylee Goddard and Jacie Brookshire to load the bases. Aspen Windesheim hit an RBI single hard grounder that left the bases loaded with one out. Davis hit her two-run double off the left field fence that only need a little more velocity to go out.

In the fourth inning, Jadriana Serrano took an error from the third baseman to safely land on first base. Faith Hauhe courtesy ran and was pushed to second on a Caitlynne Lamug bunt. Jaeda McFarland who went deep in right field for an RBI single, bringing Hauhe home, 4-0.

In the sixth inning with one out, Goddard doubled to left field. Brookshire and Windesheim was both hit by a pitch to load the bases. Enter Davis again producing yet another two-run single to bring the score to 6-0.

“This is what we do,” said Thompson. “We focus, rebuild from last year, and get stronger because every year we take a hit losing some of our arsenal, but that is a testament to the kids we have.”
