JACKSONVILLE Before the start of Fleming Island’s preseason match with The Rock School of Gainesville, head Coach Amy Walker challenged her team to play with energy and passion.

The Golden Eagles volleyball team did exactly what their coach asked.

Jasmine Robinson had nine kills and six blocks and Maya Walker added eight kills to power Fleming Island a three set victory 25-22; 25-12; 25-21 at the Don Barfield Gymnasium on the campus of the Providence School.

“We knew what we had going into the match, “ said Walker. “We were interested in seeing how the team chemistry and game flow would be. I liked what we saw today.”

In the opening set Fleming Island found themselves trailing 21-16 and after a timeout they went on a 9-1 run game o close out the set. The run was lead by the dynamic play of libero/defensive specialist JJ Ramirez. She made several digs and really took control of he floor. Kailey DiPaulie closed out the set with three service points.

“I took us a while to get into the game flow,” Walker said. “Once they relaxed and settled in we played at a high level.”

Fleming Island cruised in the second set thanks to DiPaulie’s 10 consecutive service points giving her team an early 11-1 advantage before winning the set 25-12.

In the third set the Golden Eagles used several different rotations and played more of their deep bench to close out the match.

“We are good up front and in the back, “ said Walker. “We have great balance.
