JACKSONVILLE - Middleburg head coach Carrie Prewitt is a firm believer if the old adage of-in order to be the best you need to beat the best.

“We want to play an aggressive schedule,” said Prewitt. We want play better competition and as a result we put our record at risk.”

On Saturday the Broncos faced 6A power Creekside in a preseason match at Bishop Kenny and lost in three sets 25-20; 25-18; 25-21.

The Broncos received solid play from junior outside hitter Jenna Sypniewski who registered 12 kills and five service police points while two sport star Britany Range added four kills, four blocks and four service points. Ranger will play basketball at Seton Hall next year.

“We knew what was coming,” added Prewitt. “They are good competition for us so we wanted to see how we handled the pressure.”

The Broncos mixed up their rotations and got some solid play out of sophomores Josie Bemis and Tamin Trott.

“We were inconsistent today,” said Prewitt. “We also need to focus on the back court.

Middleburg played its a lot of enthusiasm and grit which makes the coaching staff happy.

“I really liked our court personality and out bench intensity, “ reflected Prewitt. “That is a big part of the Middleburg volleyball culture.”
