PANAMA CITY BEACH – Keystone Heights High senior weightlifter Brandon Spivey was a top returner for the Indians and fulfilled the hopes with a second place finish at the Class 1A weightlifting championships held Friday at Arnold High School in Panama City Beach.
Spivey was the lone point scorer for the Indians as the Baker County High Wildcats dominated the scene with another team title with a crushing 34 point total; 21 points better than three teams tied at 13 for second place; Labelle, Bradford County and Madison County.
Ridgeview, behind a fourth place finish from Narongsak Kunsuwan at 119, and Clay, with a third from Marcaun Robinson at 183, both earned four points with Orange Park’s solo lifter, David Araujo, fifth at 199, getting two team points.
Spivey, second last year, totaled 485 with winner Marcus Dialo of Baker County taking the title with 500. Spivey bench pressed just five less than Dialo; 265-260, to keep the matchup tense, but Dialo prevailed in the clean and jerk; 235-225, for the win.
In the 183 division, Robinson had a tussle for the second or third slot with winner Robert Yoakham of Citrus blasting away with a dominating 385 bench press en route to a 660 total. Robinson and Chance Terrell of West Nassau stayed with 10 pounds; 340-330, on the bench press to set up a battle for second at the clean and jerk. Robinson won the clean and jerk battle by five pounds; 260-255, but the 10 pounds of bench press was the difference for silver. Ridgeview’s Trent Coleman totaled 570 for fifth at 183 and two team points. Also in 183, Keystone Heights’ Alex Cruz totaled 545 for 10th with Clay’s Wilguens Dorvilus totaled 540 for 12th.

From second to sixth, athletes were separated by just 30 pounds. Two other area lifters in the 139 division were Ridgeview’s Ralando Grey, who finished with a 415 total for 10th and Clay’s Sencere Gilbert who finished with a 390 total for 12th.
