ORANGE PARK – Sometimes it takes a drastic turn of events to help people find their passion. That’s exactly what Joyce Knight Hall discovered when she opened The Hall Closet.

The dream of having a consignment shop/boutique had always been on the back burner, but it took an unexpected job loss when all management positions were dissolved to actually push her in that direction.

After filling in at Round Robin Consignment and Club Challenge (Challenge Enterprises), she went to work at John Goetze Physical Therapy as the front office clerk and Marketing. Loving every minute of it until she saw a sign on the door of Round Robin, stating that they were closing.

Decisions had to be made quickly. Where would we take our nice clothes? What would happen to all the consignors after 40 years. So, when a door closes – a window opens and this seemed to be a window of opportunity.

After researching the facts about re-sale clothing, it looked to be a very profitable venture for consignors and entrepreneurs.

The search was on for a good location which could accommodate all the clothing and room for events. With a location in place on Wells Road, negotiations for the lease and equipment purchased from Round Robin, this new venture was beginning to take shape.

Now, where would we get the clothes and find consignors? No problem – the previous consignors were on board and ready and willing to start bringing in their clothes. We found that people everywhere love re-sale. Why pay retail, when you could get quality clothing at a great price and help others make money. It’s a win/win.

Joyce and her team rolled up their sleeves and put the store together and within 2 weeks had over 100 consignors and it has now grown to more than 850 consignors. Known for their friendly service and warm environment, Joyce attributes the success of the store to her team. Kind, friendly team members encourage others to feel good and enjoy their experience while there.

The consignment shop boasts of high-end fashions and accessories from Louis Vuitton, Dooney & Bourke, Michael Kors, Patricia Nash and many more. The shop also carries housewares from cookware to home furnishings. With a wide range of merchandise to suit everyone from college students to retirement age.

Always striving to be organized, the team has to be selective in what merchandise is accepted.

Many of the items that come in are new, some with tags, or nearly new. Sometimes folks may have a misconception about Consignment, but quickly find out that the merchandise is of better quality and much more affordable prices. Many times, the 75% discounts are better than thrift store pricing.

Joyce and her team have decided to put family first and try to accommodate the customers with hours that are practical. The store opens the first Sunday of every month from noon – 4 p.m. And every Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. However, beginning in January, the Thursday night hours will be from 5-7 p.m.

The Hall Closet is known for their unique events such as tea parties, paint parties and other activities that the customers can enjoy.

As the business continues to grow and have five-star reviews, the team always remembers all the special connections they have made with non-profits, customers and consignors who have helped us to shine in the community. We have always striven to give back to the community – donating to Teen Challenge, Hillcrest Clothes Closet, Operation Santa Cause and Clay County Food Pantry. It is their honor to serve!
