Nearly 400 athletes competed at Jacksonville University in the 10th annual First Coast Kids Triathlon that became a “Splash and Dash” run and swim event due to weather on Sun., July 1.

Young athletes, under 12, swam 100 yards then ran a miles while older athletes swam 200 yards and ran two miles.

On hand for the event was U.S. Olympic triathlon Hunter Kemper who greeted finishers and encouraged athletes prior to their start.

Inclement weather the night before forced the cancellation of the bike portion of the race for safety reasons.
