Fallen Clay officers remembered during Police Memorial Ceremony
Hundreds of citizens and officers gathered in Spring Park for the 2019 Police Memorial Ceremony for officers that lost their lives in the line of duty serving the citizens of Clay County. Fallen officers honored, left to right, were: Sheriff Josephus A. Peeler, Sheriff Charles M. Wilson, Sheriff Theodore S. Cherry, Sergeant Richard Watkins, Auxiliary Deputy Arthur Caton, Deputy Wilson Walker, Sergeant Kenneth “Eddie” Hayed, Detective David A. White and Deputy Benjamin L. Zirbel.
Ethan Zirbel stands by a similar motorcycle his father, Ben Zirbel, rode while working with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. Zirbel died from injuries sustained in a crash last year on Blanding Boulevard. Zirbel was the ninth deputy to die in the line of duty.
