Count your true friends. I mean your really true friends. If it takes more than the fingers of one hand to count them, you are greatly blessed. Someone has said, “If you have one true friend you have more than your share.”

When I think of true friends, I think of loyalty. A true friend will be loyal to you in every situation. You will never have a greater gift than to have a friend that you can trust at all times. “A friend loves at all times” is a statement in Proverbs 17:17. The NLT version of the Bible translates this as “A friend is always loyal.”

When I think of true friends, I think of truth. A friend will tell you the truth. When he tells you the truth, it will be because he believes it is the best for you.

Many people have said some wonderful things about friends. Another statement in the Bible is: “a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” (Prov. 18:24)

Another person said, “A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.”

There is a true friend who is always with you. He is loyal, truthful, and dependable and always there when you need Him.

In fact He has already given His life for you. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

You will never have a better friend than Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!

In 1855 Joseph Scriven wrote those words in a poem that became a great song. I want those words to ring in your heart today. Reassure yourself with this powerful truth: Jesus is your true friend. Keep it in your heart and speak it loudly to yourself today: Jesus is my Friend.
