A long time ago, I read a challenge. Who wrote it, I don’t remember. But the essence of that challenge was to find one great cause to which you could commit yourself with total dedication and passion. The lesson was: Totally dedicate yourself to pursuing that cause, and the result will be a life that will be fulfilled and satisfied.
By the time I read that, I already knew my life’s calling. But it challenged me to totally commit myself to my great calling.
For some people that calling is sports. There are people who commit their lives to being great at football, baseball, tennis, swimming – any sport can fit here.
For others, it may be business. Some people commit their lives to success in some aspect of the business world. They often build great companies because of passionate commitment.
When I discovered this challenge, I had already committed my life to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have tried to pursue this calling on my life with a passion of total commitment.
Sometimes, our greatest efforts are not 100 percent successful. But success requires us to continue, with perseverance and dedication, if we are to achieve the result that is our goal.
So, when I have failed or fallen, I have gotten up from the dust, with God’s help, and moved forward.
Several years ago, I retired. I thought my ministry was over because I had dedicated my life to it and I was ready to rest. It was one of the worst decisions I ever made.
Then the Lord woke me up, challenged me to renew my dedication to His call and prepared me for the final thrust of ministry. I told the Lord I wanted to “finish strong” and use every last day of my life in His service. So, He restored me to ministry, revealed His will to me, and He continues to give me renewed strength for His work.
Keep the passion for your calling in life alive. It will energize you and allow you to continue to move forward toward the goals God has given you.
