The bar of God’s justice is long and high. He has a “justice system” in place that always provides true justice just as He has promised.
We have experienced many high profile, highly publicized criminal trials in Florida. They have emphasized the flaws and weaknesses of our legal system. There will always be flaws and failures in a system that depends on men to deny self interest and do the right thing.
God is just and perfect. So, all of His verdicts are right. “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Gen. 18:25) It is a rhetorical question because the answer is obvious. Yes. We can always depend on God to do the right thing.
Everyone will stand before the bar of God’s justice to give an account of his life. The Bible makes this very clear. Romans 14:12 says “Each of us will give an account of himself to God.” And when you stand in that awesome place you know that God will not be unfair or unjust.
But that presents this problem. When I look at my life, I know I do not want the verdict that I deserve pronounced on me. I do not want to eternally serve the sentence that I know I deserve.
That Great Judge has made a provision for me to receive mercy. I can make the claim that the penalty for my law-breaking sinfulness has already been paid. When that claim is proven true, God will show me mercy and forgive my trespasses because He will not require my sins be paid for twice.
“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32) “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
The justice of God has already been satisfied by judgment for sin being laid upon Jesus on the cross. If you accept that provision of Jesus, your sins are forgiven. You can then expect mercy when you stand before God’s justice bar because the penalty for your sins has already been paid.
