In Biblical terms, there is an ongoing battle between the great powers of the Universe. God Almighty is one contender; the other is Satan, His opponent in all things.
This great contest manifested itself most vividly at a place called Golgotha where the crucifixion of Jesus took place. It was there that God fulfilled His victory over His constant opponent and declared victory – a victory sealed by the Resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus of Nazareth completely understood His place in this bold scenario of eternal matters. Jesus knew there could be no other outcome than victory because His Father had declared from the beginning that it would occur. (Genesis 3:15)
At the time of Jesus’ arrest, He already knew that his enemy, Satan, could have no success in defeating Him. Numerous times He had said to His disciples that Satan had no ability to take His life from Him. In these various times of declaring it, He said the devil had “no claim” on Him.
In John 14:30 Jesus said Satan had “no claim” on Him. In John 19:11, Jesus declared Pilate had no power or authority over Him. In John 10:11, He says, ““No one takes it (my life) from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.” All this is saying that Satan has “No claim” on Him.
Because Satan had no claim on Jesus, He has no claim on us. This is victory for all believers. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul says we are “in Christ.” Colossians 3:3 says “your life is hidden with Christ in God.” This statement is continued numerous times. We are told we are “in Christ.” We are told Christ is in us. (Christ in you, the hope of glory…” Col. 1:27) There are numerous Scriptures telling us we are in Him and He is in us.
Satan never had any claim on Jesus; he has no claim on Jesus now; therefore, he has NO CLAIM on you! Or any who are in Christ!
