FLEMING ISLAND – A 21-year-old Middleburg man was charged with driving under the influence after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he crashed his car into an electrical transformer on Old Hard Road, causing a three-hour power outage on a portion of the island.

Cody Allen Brown was charged with DUI with property damage or injury after his car hit the transformer at Eagle Creek Drive. Two linemen with Clay Electric Cooperative were taken to the hospital after they were burned and suffered vision injuries when they were struck with an arcing flash while trying to restore power.

Brown was released from the Clay County Jail after posting a $5,002 bond.
