NEW LONDON, Conn. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association named all of the NCAA Division III qualifiers to its All-America teams.

Fleming Island High School graduate and Class 3A champion in 2017 Paul Detwiler (184) joined teammates Jon Wagner (197) and Patrick Irwin (HWT) were all named to the first team while Noah Caskey (141), Phil Rogers (165) and AJ Aeberli (174) earned second team honors.

Each year the NWCA recognizes the outstanding work of the DIII Student-athletes by naming the All-Americans based on their achievements in the national championship, however, this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the championships were cancelled.

All-American honors were based on each wrestler’s overall body of work through the regional tournaments and up to the national championships.

Coast Guard, which sent six wrestlers to the NCAA Division III Championship had three wrestlers named to the first team and three more earn second team honors.

Rogers, Detwiler and Wagner all won regional championships. Aeberli and Irwin placed second while Caskey placed third and earn an NCAA bid. It was the second straight regional championship for Wagner. “These athletes deserve to be recognized for their outstanding body of work during the 2019-2020 season,” said Lonnie Morris, NWCA Division III President & Johnson & Wales head coach. “I’m proud of the NWCA Division III leadership group working so diligently to review the candidates and for developing a meaningful process for recognizing this elite group of young men.”
