Tip-A-Cop, Law Enforcement Torch Run
set to raise money for Special Olympics

ORANGE PARK – Tip-A-Cop next Tuesday at the LongHorn Steakhouse on Fleming Island will kick off five days of events by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to raise money for local athletes of Special Olympics.
Deputies will work as servers for three days, with all tips being given to Special Olympics.
On Friday, deputies will be part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run that starts at 9 a.m. at Moosehaven at 1701 Park Ave. in Orange Park, it then proceeds along Kingsley Avenue and will end at the Publix parking lot at 410 Blanding Blvd.
Both events will include deputies and civilians.

Friends of Middleburg Library to hold its Spring Book Sale

MIDDLEBURG – The Friends of the Middleburg Clay Hill Library will be holding their Spring Book Sale from April 25-27.
Most books are less than $1. Hardback fictions are arranged by author. The sale, at 2245 Aster Street in Middleburg, will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27.
Friends of the Middleburg Library will be allowed to shop April 24-27 before the doors open to the general public.
Membership to Friends of the Middleburg Library are $5 for a single, $8 for a family and $25 to be a patron.

Sawyer Brown coming to Thrasher-Horne Center in August

ORANGE PARK – Sawyer Brown is coming to the Thrasher-Horne Center on Friday, Aug. 30, at 8 p.m.

Portable classroom burns down at Wilkinson Elementary

MIDDLEBURG – An early-morning fire last Friday destroyed a portable classroom at Wilkinson Elementary, Clay County Fire Rescue reported.
Someone called after smelling smoke and seeing flames behind the school, David Motes, deputy chief said. Crews arrived and found one portable classroom fully involved and three others being threatened. Crews aggressively started suppression operations and the fire was quickly extinguished. Surrounding portables were checked and sustained little damage.
Multiple units responded from Middleburg, Oak Leaf, Clay Hill, Lake Asbury and Kingsley Lake and the first unit arrived six minutes after the initial 911 call. No injuries were reported from the fire crews.
The fire is under the investigation of the Florida State Fire Marshalls Office.
