Fleming Island’s Tison to sing for spot at Suwannee River Jam
LIVE OARK – Payten Tison is one of 14 artists who will compete this weekend for a spot in the music lineup of the Suwannee River Jam later this spring.
The Fleming Island resident will perform on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Music Hall at the Suwannee Music Park and Campground. She then will be part of the Legends of Country and Pop show on Saturday where she will perform songs that honor Brenda Lee.
The weekend will end Sunday with the Wedding Expo in the Music Hall.
Also auditioning on Friday are: LeeAnn Purvis (Callahan), Charity Cox (Anthony), Kyle Brigham (O’Brien), Cheyenne Graft Brigham (O’Brien), Brandon Adams (St. Augustine), Ashley Aust (Lake City), Brooke Spencer (St. Johns), Katie O (Jacksonville), Cole Tomlinson (Blackshear, Ga.), Taylor Phillips (Palm Coast), Brandon Bing (Samsula), John Lee (Mississippi) and Reggie Stacy (Bronson).
Friday night’s show is free. Admission is $10 for the Legends show on Saturday.
The audition is for solo singers and duos. Judges will select five winners to move forward to the finals on March 8. More auditions will be announced soon. Go to www.suwanneeriverjam.com/contests for more.

Master gardeners to address Garden Club of Fleming Island
FLEMING ISLAND – The Garden Club of Fleming Island will host a presentation by two master gardeners at the Fleming Island Library on Jan. 13.
The meeting at 1895 Town Center Blvd. will begin at 10 a.m.
The gardeners who will offer everyone a hands-on opportunity to plant seeds, transplant seedlings and take home two spring flowering plants and two vegetable plants. The program includes information on how to select seeds, varieties that do best planted from seeds in North Florida, equipment needed to start seedlings and planting times to ensure a continuous supply of flowers and vegetables throughout the spring growing season. Growing from seed is a great way to save money rather than buying transplants from a nursery and planting can be staggered to have constantly blooming or spreading out the harvesting of the vegetables throughout the season. No more have everything ready to eat all at the same time.
