GREENSBORO, NC – Orange Park High track champion Alex Collier, fresh off a Class 3A 400 meter title, ramped up his 400 meter legs to finish third at the New Balance National Outdoor Track Championships on June 13-16 at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, NC.
Collier, with a 46.33 second split for the Florida 3A title at University of North Florida, took third in the 400 meters at New Balance with a 47.24 split behind winner Randolph Ross of North Carolina, who won in 46.80, and Anthony Brodie of New York, runner up in 46.88.
Ross, who runs for Garner Senior High in North Carolina, is the North Carolina 4A champion with a 46.80 time in May. Ross also high jumped 6’-8.25” at the New Balance meet for ninth.
Brodie’s 46.88 was a personal best by nearly a second with his previous best just 47.39.
Collier, third in 3A in the 100 at 10.75, later competed in the 100 meters with an 18th place finish in 10.69 seconds with Joseph Fahnbulleh of Minnesota winning in 10.41 and Javonte Harding of Virginia, the 5A Virginia state champion at 10.63, getting runner up at 10.43. The top six sprinters were under 10.50 seconds. Fahnbulleh, the Minnesota 2A 200 meter state high school champ who is headed to the University of Florida next year, has a 10.23 personal best in the 100. Fahnbulleh also anchored the 2A 4 x 200 relay gold medalists.
