Clay students inducted
into honor society

BATON ROUGE, La. – Eight college students from Clay County are now members of the prestigious collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi.
Described as the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, students were inducted at Jacksonville University and the University of Florida.
Jacksonville University inductees are David Jedrziewski, Jay Marcus and Barbara Austin, all of Fleming Island, and Cindy Williams and Seth Culler, both of Orange Park.
UF inductees are Lane Johns and Philip Layton, both of Middleburg.
These students are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Founded in 1897 under the leadership of Marcus L. Urann, the Society has chapters on more than 300 campuses in the United States and the Philippines. Some of the organization’s notable members include former President Jimmy Carter, NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence, novelist John Grisham and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.

Vanegas graduates from Grantham University
LENEXA, Kansas – Grantham University reports that Edward Vanegas of Orange Park recently graduated with an online associate degree in business management.
“The Grantham family congratulates Edward Vanegas on this accomplishment,” said Scott Andrews, Grantham University president and chief executive officer. “It gives us great pleasure for our graduates to embark on the next exciting chapter of their lives, with quality education that will help set them up for success.”
Given the flexibility of the 100 percent online university’s course schedule, Grantham students finish their programs and graduate each week of the year. Founded in 1951 by World War II veteran Donald Grantham, university offers more than 50 online undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs, and serves a global student population of more than 15,000 annually.
