CLAY COUNTY – One hundred years ago, women won the right to vote. In fact, the 2020 Primary Election falls on the exact anniversary of its ratification – Aug. 18.

The 19th Amendment is a victory that should be celebrated, not just for its obvious importance, but because it took decades for it to happen. For over 70 years, hundreds of thousands of women- and men- lobbied, marched, protested and petitioned for change.

In the 100 years since, women continue to show up at the polls, and in government. Over the next five months, the Supervisor of Elections Office will share the journey of the 19th Amendment, from its beginning to its ratification. Along the way, we’ll highlight elected women in Clay County, past and present and their experiences in government.

There’s no better way to celebrate this historical event than to VOTE! Please visit ClayElections.gov for more information on the upcoming 2020 Elections.
