JACKSONVILLE - Keystone Heights High graduate Enoch Nadler put another milestone on his evergrowing resume with a scintillating road mile win in "almost" four minutes Saturday night at the Big Chief Tire One Mile Championships staged by PRS Racing of Jacksonville.

"Just hammered the whole way," said an elated Nadler afterward. "I just wanted to see how fast I could go after a lot of long distance training."

Nadler, 33, who recently finished the Boston Marathon in 22nd place in two hours, 17 minutes, turned on the speed jets to win the Elite Mile in 4:04.65 in an elite field that included a handful of Clay County track and cross country stars. Nadler is now preparing for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in February 2020 in Atlanta with a Toronto Marathon attempt in October.

"I just been pounding the miles to get ready for the Olympic Trials race," said Nadler. "Toronto in October is the next test. This was a speed test."

Also creating a personal record, masters runner Shelly Allen, 55, of Fleming Island, ran a 5:39 mile to best her world-ranked best of 5:43. Allen, coached by husband and newly-named Fleming Island High coach Dave Allen, set her 5:39 mile world ranked mile in Portland on the track.

"You can't really compare the two times because one is on the road the other on a track, but it's still nice to see improvement," said Allen. "Lining up with the young, fast ladies in this race was quite a challenge."

In the first of two 800 loops centered by Shoppes of Murray Hill near Edgewood Avenue, Nadler blasted a 1:56 split to put the field on notice with Kenyan Harrison Kirigwi, at 2:00 at the 800 mark, about five yards behind Nadler.

In the second lap of the championship race, Nadler, with a 2:08 finish, exploded to attempt his stab at a sub-four minute mark and also to break his own record of 4:05.

With no runners able to sustain the brutal surge on the first lap, Nadler cruised in with a 15 second lead to best Kirigwi, who ran 4:20.33 and Calum McFetridge, a Buchholz High grad well known to Fleming Island High cross country and track athletes, in 4:26.05.

From there, Alex Guy, a Keystone Heights High graduate this year who will be heading to Florida Southern College next year, rolled in at 4:29.40. Orange Park High grad John Bear, headed to Florida State College of Jacksonville, was fifth in 4:31.00. The fourth Clay County high schooler, William Livesay, a senior to be at Fleming Island High, finished 12th in 4:42.31. Green Cove Springs Junior High's Keegan Emanuel, who will run at Fleming Island High in the fall, finished 28th in 5:39.87.

In the womens' championship race, Katie Landau, 42, of Gainesville, won in 4:56.00 with second place going to Amelia Williams, 26, in 5;02.00.

In the womens' open division, Michelle Richards, 46, the Columbia Lake City High School track coach, won in 5:55.31 over Ashley Cole, 30, second in 6:05.87. Richards hovered in second place on the first lap behind Cole with a 2:53-2:49 gap, before overtaking her with a 3:01 second lap to Cole's 3:16.

"I kind of figured she went out too fast and just had to be patient," said Richards, a former Suwannee High School standout. "I train with Enoch Nadler and the Florida Track Club and he stresses to run our own races. I just listened to him."

Also in the womens open race was Amy Bonnette, 46, of Orange Park, 14th in 7:01.46.

In the mens open division, won in 5:25.66 by Nicholas Ryan Gonino, Middleburg master's ace Hank Gibson, 57, took fifth in 5:47.45. David Bonnette, 52, finished 11th in 6:00.33.
