GREEN COVE SPRINGS –The Clay County Clerk’s Office brought 200 candles for Tuesday night’s Tales From the Clink at the old county jail and courthouse, and all 200 were gone in the first 20 minutes after the exhibit opened.

Several hundred residents came to Tales from the Clink to hear ghost stories from true happenings at the historical triangle, turning the project into a rousing success.

The Ridgeview High Drama Program made several presentations depicting some of the area’s most-popular ghostly tales.

Casandra Roberts played Lizzy Thomas, right, played a woman jailed for a mental breakdown; Summer Lewis, right-middle, bottom left, tells the story of Sheriff Josephus Peeler who was shot in 1894 breaking up a fight; and of coroner James Rushton’s famous cases, including finding D.W. Canada (played by Tabi Wyatt, bottom right) after he stabbed himself to death on the courthouse grounds.

Residents, below, were happy to stand in line to tour the old jail, courthouse and train station.
