MIDDLEBURG – Squirrel hunters discovered possible human remains at Jennings State Forest on Sunday afternoon.
Officers from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. to investigate. They secured the area, which is near Hattie Nolan Road.
“Deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office are investigating what could be possible human remains … in Jennings State Forest,” the Sheriff’s Office stated on its Facbeook page. “Investigators have secured the scene and the investigation continues.”
Speculation by local residents is that the remains could be those of Hal Warth, 79, who disappeared in area in August after wandering off, but the Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified whom the remains belong to.
Police said the investigation would continue today.
