Dean Peterson
Dean Peterson, 80, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 31st, 2016, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 3rd, 1936. He was raised by his loving mother, Margaret Callahan, in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and graduated from Franklin High School. He attended Northeastern University, and continued on to graduate studies.
He met Phyllis, his wife of 54 years, at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. They settled in the quaint town of Northport, New York, where Dean was employed as a high school biology teacher for 33 years. Upon his retirement, they moved to Magnolia Point in Green Cove Springs, Florida, drawn by the golf and the friendly community. He continued to teach biology for 10 years as an adjunct professor at FCCJ. The church was very important to him, and he served in many different capacities throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, work ethic, friendship, and his unwavering devotion to his family and to God.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Peterson, his daughter, Kathryn Gulitti (Michael), his son, Michael Peterson (Amy), his grandchildren, Emily Gulitti, Nicholas Gulitti, and Rosemary Peterson. The family wishes to thank the many friends and community members of Magnolia Point who supported them and surrounded them with love during Dean’s journey.
A celebration of Dean’s life will be held at the Orange Park United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 10th, at 11:00 am. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice of NE FL or Orange Park United Methodist Church. Murl Thomas Moore
Early in the morning of August 6, 2016, Murl Thomas Moore passed from this world peacefully in his sleep. Murl lived a full and rich life which included a 22-year career in the U.S. Navy, a 20 year career in the Clay County School System, and raising a family that loved and respected him.
After the death of his first wife, Annabel Frazier Moore, in 1987, fortune smiled on him again when he married Phyllis Amrhein in 1991. Phyllis continues to reside at their home in Dickson, Tenn. where she and Murl built a life that includes grandchildren and friends and was founded on a joy of travel and quiet adventures.
The week before his passing, Murl entered Hospice care. During this time, his sons Michael, Douglas, Jonathan, and Timothy travelled to spend those precious last few days with him, reaffirming their respect and love for a man who taught them that obligation was not a burden and happiness was something you build rather than find.
Laura Floyd, his daughter by marriage but no less family because Murl’s heart knew no distinction, lives in Dickson and balanced the needs of her husband and children with aiding Phyllis, and Murl.
He is survived by Phyllis Arnheim-Moore, his children, Michael, Douglas, Jonathan, Timothy, and Laura; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Ronald, Voncille, and Jimmy.
A wake will be held at his former home, 720 Tara Farm Drive, Middleburg, Florida on September 10th from 4-6 p.m. Anyone who knew him is invited to visit and share in a celebration of his life. Dress will be casual, bright colors preferred, and a bagpiper will be on hand to provide music and stories. His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, guests make a contribution to their local Hospice to aid them in their heroic work that provides dignity to those whose time is short and comfort to the families coming to terms with the loss of those so central to their own lives.
