Nursing students exceed national, state pass rate
PALATKA – For a seventh consecutive year, nursing students at St. Johns River State College have surpassed the state and national passing rates for the RN licensure exam with a 94.12 percent passing rate for 2016.
The 2016 national average passing rate for the National Council Licensure Examination for is 84.57 percent. The state average for 2015 was 72.02 percent.
“We are proud of our outstanding graduates, dedicated faculty and the clinical affiliates who work in collaboration to prepare the next generation of nurses to serve our local workforce,” said Mary Anne Laney, dean of nursing and allied health.
The SJR State nursing program is offered on the Orange Park and Palatka campuses. The LPN Bridge to ASN program is offered on the St. Augustine campus. The associate of science degree in nursing program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

Veterinary practice to host education seminar for vets
JACKSONVILLE – Southeast Veterinary Oncology and Internal Medicine, which specializes in the innovative and progressive treatment of pet cancer and provides specialty diagnostics and treatment for many forms of diseases in pets, will host a Continuing Education Seminar for veterinarians across the region from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Deercreek Country Club, located at 7816 McLaurin Rd. North in Jacksonville.
Board-certified specialists Dr. Abigail Bertalan and Dr. Zachary Neumann, who are on staff at Southeast Veterinary Oncology and Internal Medicine, will be joined by Dr. A. Rick Alleman, the chief executive officer of Lighthouse Veterinary Consultants and Dr. Robert M. Dufort, a senior internal medicine consultant with IDEXX Laboratories, to share information on new research and treatment options in the medical care of dogs and cats.
During his professional career, Alleman has received numerous teaching, research and patent awards – including the Louisiana State University Distinguished Alumni Award. He is also a former professor, service chief, resident coordinator and director of laboratories at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He will discuss clinical pathology updates at the event.
As a consultant with IDEXX, a multinational corporation engaged in the development, manufacture and distribution of products and services for the animal veterinary markets, Dufort will highlight some challenging small animal medicine cases – along with new innovative diagnostic tests for pets.
Veterinarians will earn five hours of CE credit by taking part in the seminar, and brunch will be served to attendees.
