JACKSONVILLE - With a plethora of American flags being carried from start to finish, the Celebration 5K road race showed off plenty of Red, White and Blue with Kristopher Shold, 38, of Jacksonville, and Kate Landau, 42, of Jacksonville, who took top honors, amidst the nearly 2,000 runners.
The event was staged by 1st Place Sports of Jacksonville.
Shold won decisively in 15 minutes, 36 seconds with second place finisher Christian Conder, 21, in at 15:50.
In fifth place was Clay County's Matthew Stratton, 15, in 15:59 in a best time for the 3.1 mile course. Stratton is a state meet cross country and track athlete for St. Johns Country Day School.
Landau, after being top miler last week at the Big Chief Tire One Mile Championships also in Jacksonville, won in 16:39 for an impressive ninth place overall. Second place finisher was Crystal Davis, 25, and pushing a baby carriage, in 18:22. Fourteen year old Ella Mickler was third female in 18:59 for 45th place.
Master's awards went to Brian Shrout, 46, in 16:24 for seventh overall and Holly Sanford, 43, of Fleming Island, in 20:22 for 75th overall.
Next races are the Vestcor Bridge Run in downtown Jacksonville on July 20 and the rugged Tour De Pain race weekend of three races in 24 hours on Aug. 2-3.
